Joao Moura in his column for LB.ua talked about investment decisions during the war

Buy a ready-made business or build a new one from scratch? In war conditions, each investment decision must take into account much more factors than financial indicators. Joao Moura, Managing Director of CEMARK, talked about approaches to such decisions, CEMARK's experience and prospects for the development of the construction industry in Ukraine in his column for LB.ua.

One of the examples discussed in the material is the construction of a logistics terminal in Vyshneve. Over six years, about $34 million was invested in the project. The construction and launch of the terminal fell on the periods of the pandemic, disruptions in global supply chains, a full-scale war and an energy crisis.

Another approach is the acquisition of an already established business. In this case, value can be created by a ready-made client base, market access, team and expertise. That is why, as Joao Moura notes, the choice between organic investments and M&A depends on the specific context and which option allows you to create more long-term value.

The column pays special attention to the integration of acquired companies. Financial and operational processes can be integrated relatively quickly, while the formation of a common culture, work approaches and security standards requires much more time and attention. For CEMARK, security remains a fundamental part of this process.

Joao Moura also talks about the role of trust in making investment decisions. Most of CEMARK's deals in Ukraine are implemented by its own management team without the involvement of investment banks. This is facilitated by the company's long-term presence in Ukraine and professional ties with partners and business owners.
