Ganna Khromova in her column for “Business Censor” spoke about a systemic approach to CSR

How can a business move from point assistance to a systemic impact on communities? Ganna Khromova, General Manager of Mykolaiv Cement Plant, spoke about this in her column for “Business Censor”.

In the article, Ganna shares the practical experience of the Mykolaiv Cement Plant’s work with communities located near the enterprise and explains why it is important for business to go beyond reactive assistance and work with the long-term needs of the region.

The Mykolaiv Cement Plant operates in Mykolaiv, Lviv region, and its social initiatives cover five territorial communities within a radius of 25 kilometers. The team has identified three priority areas of CSR:

• restoration of historical and cultural heritage;
• support for medicine and healthcare;
• creation of infrastructure for children and youth.

One example of this approach is the restoration of the 1913 Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in the village of Demnya. The project began with a request related to the development of a space for children, and later grew into the restoration of a historical building important to the community. Today, a cultural and educational center is being created here, and the project itself is already stimulating residents to improve the surrounding areas and public space.

Another area of ​​work is the development of medical infrastructure. Last year, a room for the recovery and rehabilitation of veterans was equipped on the basis of the children's department of the Mykolaiv city hospital. The next step will be to update the ultrasound room.

In the column, Ganna also talks about the principles that help CEMARK build systematic work with communities: identify real needs, choose priority projects, monitor their implementation and evaluate the result according to the changes they launch in the community.
